The Weekly Meeting - September 9th

On Monday night we heard a report from the Board of Directors. All but three members have paid their first installment of their dues. Ten members have paid the total amount for the year. Rose has had to pay our dues to Rotary International for the twenty two members on our roster. She reminded us that is why it is important to pay in a timely fashion. Our next dues payment will be sent on January 1st for the second half of the year.

We noted that Edgar Morales has accepted a transfer and will be managing a Providence store. We will truly miss him but understand this is a good move for him vocationally. We hope to be able to express how thankful we are to him for all he has done for the club and our community at some point in the future. Meanwhile, we will try to make a connection with the new manager of the local Walmart.

Dan Alvino and Bruce Morrow will be chairing the Pasta Dinner for the Johnnycake Fuel fund again this year. Dan has made contact with the Elks and the Lions Clubs to see if they are interested this year. The Elks are willing to host it and M & M Caters will help us out again. The date for the dinner is Thursday, November 14th. We will be hearing more in the next few weeks.

We talked about the special meeting on September 23rd and our hope that every member will try to be there and work to invite one or two guests to the event. Spouse and significant others are welcome as well as friends and potential Rotarians. If you know someone who would make a good Rotarian, invite them. Our guest that night will be Robert Steele, author of the book, The Curse: Big Time Gambling’s Seduction of a Small New England Town. We will be having a buffet dinner downstairs at the Venice for the usual price of $20 per person. We have guaranteed them at least twenty five people.

We also talked about the leadership of the club. Dan Alvino, Doug Rayner and Bruce Morrow will work with me to come up with a slate of officers for the 2014-2015 year.

We closed out our meeting by reporting that we had voted to give $500 toward the International Project at the CCC of La Penita and send it down with Dan when he goes back to Mexico this winter.
