And so Saturday, 24 June, saw the 42nd Annual Summer Pops Concert take place in the beautiful Wilcox Park. The day started off with lots of rain to try and "dampen" our enthusiasm for this very special day. It didn't work!!! We were up and ready to do our part by two o'clock in the afternoon. As people came by, a few were new to Westerly and not sure what was going on, our members encouraged sales of lemonade and popcorn. Boy, did we have popcorn - huge thank you to Shoreline Cinema Group for their donation. Another huge thank you to Westerly High School's Honor Society students who came to help us set up in the morning and to clean up in the evening - Luke Nelson, Robby Wade, Eric Fusaro, Alex Luzzi, Dylan Tallardy, Camden Kelly, Natalie Gay, Gabriella Souder, Alaina Tripp, Emily Tran, Jack Kenyon, Will Brennan, Cadence O'Neil, Ryder Casady, Genna Falcone, Abbey Gervasini, Kyle Andrews. Grateful thanks to Bogue's Alley for the donation of the best hot dogs and pretzels, Grey Sail Brewery and Navigant Credit Union. Some of our stalwart crew were at work from 8:30am right through 10:30pm, finishing up Sunday morning to put everything back in storage. We sold 200 hot dogs, 160 pretzels, about 470 boxes of popcorn, 80 gallons of lemonade, 560 slices of Mario's Northend pizza, lots of bottled water and soda as the weather cleared and people began to fill the park. All afternoon we listened to the guest musicians and the Chorus and orchestra who filled our hearts with their beautiful sounds. And then the spectacular fireworks show by Grucci to finish off the night. Are we lucky to live in Westerly? Yes - WE ARE!!!!
