Chowder CookOff - 4 May 2013
The Ninth Annual Chowder Cook-Off event took place on Saturday, 4 May, with a huge thank you to Chef Jamie and his Westerly High School students who provided quite a bit of assistance. We can't thank them enough for their hard work. We had hoped to have a huge crowd of attendees on Saturday but some of our members did not fulfill their responsibility of selling tickets and attending. Only Nine members were present at some point of the day.
A very special thank you to our participants for their cooperation through the Rhode Island Health Department's rules and to Nunzio and his staff at Venice Restaurant for all their efforts to accommodate everyone. A grateful appreciation to the following:
Andrea Restaurant Casa Della Luce Shelter Harbor Inn The Breachway Grill Two Little Fish Venice Restaurant
Culinary Students of East Providence High School, Rogers High School, Westerly High School and Woonsocket High School
The success and highlight (for this editor) of the day was in the spirit, camaraderie and cooperation among the participants. The students were terrific - it was a pleasure to watch their dedication. Even though we could only award a first and second place. Each participant was a winner!!!! Please remember the restaurants when you are looking to eat out - visit them as often as you can - they deserve our support!!! To the young people, we wish them years of success in all they do whether they remain in food service or go on to some other endeavor. So, now our winners --- for the Professional Restaurant Division
1st PLACE WINNER - CASA DELLA LUCE, Mark Lacz
2nd PLACE WINNER - SHELTER HARBOR INN, Kim Baruti
and for the High School Culinary Student Division
1st PLACE WINNER - Westerly High School, Chef Jamie Finkelstein
2nd PLACE WINNER - Woonsocket High School, Chef Paul Jalaf
We also send a very special thank you to Chris DiPaola and WBLQ for spending the day with us.
