In partnership with the Westerly-Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Westerly, our Club has pledged to support the purchase of two EMILY robots (Emergency Integrated Lifesaving Lanyard) - these are motorized high speed surface rescue devices. 85 pounds of flotation, 24 pound displacement and programmed to travel at 24 mph for 15 minutes, this technology will help first responders save lives. The purchase of these robots will provide the opportunity for our community to be the East Coast model to keep our residents and visitors safe.
The EMILY robots have been used at Zuma Beach in Malibu, CA, for over a year, at Depoe Bay, OR and with the Swift Water Rescue Team in Green Valley, AZ. EMILY has received the Invention of the Year 2010 for Security Category by Popular Science Magazine, ranked #7 of 50 Best Inventions of 2010 by Time Magazine, listed as top innovation by Autonomous Unmanned Vehicles System International.
