Melanie with President Elect Derin
Melanie Fricchione became the new Westerly Children's Librarian last October 2022. Previously she was a Librarian at West Warwick, earned her Bachelor Degree from Providence College and a Master Degree from University of Rhode Island. Home was Scranton, Pennsylvania. Nancy Burns Fusaro featured Melanie in the Easy Chair on 14 January 2023. In an article recently about Westerly Library being the heart of the community, Melanie is quoted as saying, "I think of libraries as information centers... It's a place for community members to learn about each other and learn about themselves...Since information is always changing, libraries are always changing too. I think we're getting better at articulating the fact that we're about more than books." Melanie showed much enthusiasm and excitement as she talked about the programs available to young people and their parents as well as changes regarding cataloging books and the children's area.
