Image       22 June 2013     The Chorus of Westerly's annual Summer Pops Concert in Wilcox Park

The day began with beautiful breezes and the promise of perfect weather - a promise kept!!!  The Rotary crew began the process of unloading concession supplies at the park at 10 am and finished that part of the work around 1:00 pm.  Next Rotary crew and volunteer helpers arrived around 2:00 pm to do final preparations before sales could begin at 4:00 pm.  Of the 23 Rotarians, 16 helped at some point in the day - either with set up, sales or clean up.  Special thanks go to Steve Salerno, who couldn't be with us on Saturday, but was responsible for making all the initial vendor contacts and to Edgar Morales, who also could not be with us, but was responsible for Walmart's contribution of beverages and other supplies both for the Chorus and orchestra and concession sales.

The Chorus, dressed in red and white, performed the Armed Forces Salute medley to honor all veterans in attendance, along with an Irish Medley, songs from the King and I, 4 movements from Songs of the Fleet with grammy winner soloist William H. Sharp. and ending with the crowd favorite - 1812 Overture complete with Newport Artillery cannon, Grucci fireworks, and Christ Church bells - followed by the National Anthem.  Early attendees were able to listen to the dress rehearsal which was followed by music of 5 local area groups.  A fantastic show to end Maestro Andrew Howell's first year as Music Director of the Chorus of Westerly.

Extra security greeted everyone at the Park but the day and evening proceeded without incident - a relaxing, friendly and fun event for everyone.
