The District Governor's Visit
On July 14th we hosted the annual visit from the District Governor. Governor Valerie Perry came down to meet with the club's Board of Directors with our old friend and current Assistant District Governor Rona Mann and Valerie's sister, Sharon Johnson.
After the meeting we joined the rest of the club at Rotary Park for our Million Dollar Meal. Joe and Carol Potter served as our chefs for the afternoon. They were assisted by their daughter, Cindy Capizzano.Using the Bruce Morrow's portable grill, we cooked up a bunch of burgers and dogs. Everyone brought picnic foods and the normal $20 meal cost was donated to the Rotary Foundation and Polio Plus. We raised $485 for the cause.
We took our annual picture and then made our way back to the gazebo to hear a message from DG Valerie. She encouraged us to continue what we were doing and to be the light that shines in our community.
We were honored to be the District Governor's first club visit of her year at the helm. She was delightful and engaging and we know that she is going to have a great year.
After her address President Doug presented her with a book to sign which will be donated to the Westerly Children's Library to commemorate her visit with the club. Then visiting Rotarian Dan Stanavage auctioned off a Rotary polo shirt that was donated by Steve Cofone.
