Captains Richards and Mosher with President Chris

Our Guests Monday evening were Captain Kenneth Richards, III and Captain Richard Mosher, EMS Administrator and Supervisor, respectively.

The Westerly Ambulance Corps has been providing emergency medical services for the Westerly-Pawcatuck Area since 1917.  Dr. Frank I. Payne was the Corps' first Commander under the name "Westerly Red Cross Sanitary Unit".  It is a private, nonprofit volunteer organization "whose original purpose was to form a first aid and rescue unit in Westerly."  The Corps "provides emergency 911 dispatching services for itself and other fire and ambulance services in the area."  Both volunteers and paid staff are all fully certified either EMT Basic, EMT Cardiac or Paramedic.

The Corps "does not provide routine transportation to doctor offices, dialysis or to other scheduled appointments."  They do respond to 911 emergencies.  Part of their mission statement reads "our service-oriented professionals strive for excellence through training and education."  And that follows with constant vigilance to upgrade equipment and vehicles as necessary.  In 2002 they began operating out of new headquarters located on Chestnut Street with state-of-the-art 911 dispatching facilities.

A membership contribution of $60 in the WAC Inc entitles one "to emergency and non emergency ambulance transport to any hospital within 75 miles of Westerly when requested by police, physicians or appropriate 911 calls and when service is provided by the WAC Inc, service must originate in Rhode Island.  WAC Inc will bill your insurance, but any remaining balance will be waived."  For more information, please go to their website at www.westerlyambulance.org or the office between 9:00am and 5:00pm 401.596.4375  ext 202.
