Monday Evening, December 12, 2011, the membership had the pleasure of meeting and listening to Donna Nabb, who has been selected to head the newly organized Westerly Parent Academy.  She comes to this collaboration with ten years of experience working with families in the Westerly Public School System.  She is very excited about this project and the Academy's goals  -

To be a link to a broad network of community learning opportunities

To support student learning and success

To strengthen communication between parents and their children's schools

To help parents build personal, education and vocation skills for job and career growth

The Academy will offer workshops and courses to parents with the help of educators and business professionals in the community.  At a November meeting in Warwick, RI Education Commissioner Gist called for parental involvement in education reform and mentioned the Westerly Parent Academy as the First in Rhode Island.

our Club voted to award the Academy $500 and the check was presented last evening.  Currently two of our members, Mario Celico and Clark Rumfelt, are participating members of the Academy.
