It was a great pleasure to host our November and December Students of the Month, their parents and our RYLA 2019 Student at the last meeting before Christmas. Pictured here are Joshua Lacerte (November), Adrianna Turano (December) and Abigail Turano (RYLA 2019):
Joshua has been an Honor student all four years of high school. He has been a member of the football team and Captain junior and senior years. His community projects include Football Youth Camp, honorary firefighters dinner and Junie Rios youth camp. Joshua has won several awards including the Washington Trust Leadership Award.
Adrianna has also been a Honor student all four years of high school and member of National and Rhode Island Honor Societies. She has been a member of the Lacrosse, Swimming and Indoor Track teams, Girls State, Girls Nation, Student Council, Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse and more. Adrianna's community service includes Bible Study Camp, Town of Westerly Recreational Summer Camp, North End Clean up, Summer Pops, Blood Drive and Italian tutoring.
As in the past, the Student of the Month plaques were donated and provided by Nigrelli's Jewelry. And, we are grateful to Mr. Hobin for his efforts to determine our student selections.
Abigail is a Junior at Westerly High School. She was selected by Mr. Hobin and his staff to represent Westerly at the 2019 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Program which will take place at Cape Cod Sea Camps from May 17 to 19, 2019. This program, now in its 11th year, is organized and run by student alumni and Rotarian volunteers. All over the world, thousands of young people are chosen for their leadership potential to attend this conference to discuss leadership skills and learn them through practice.
We were fortunate to have ADG Chuck Sauer present at this meeting. As a Rotarian volunteer of RYLA for the past several years, Chuck spoke about the RYLA program and his hope that Abi would come away with many useful tools for her future success.
