Chorus of Westerly Summer Pops Rehearsal on Saturday, 22 June 2024.  The Rain Gods began pouring down just as the rehearsal was finishing up.  About a half hour later Saturday night show had to postpone.  So, off to Grey Sail's cooler went our hot dogs and pretzels.  And, onward we go to Sunday afternoon to start over.  Rotarians, with the help of Westerly High School Honor students and Visiting Rotarian Rick from Santa Fe, New Mexico, assembled our concession stand early Saturday morning and we were all set to start selling around 2:00pm.  Sunday morning brought us back to the park to examine and reorganize our site.  In the afternoon many of us returned to cook hot dogs and pretzels and begin selling our soda, water, Del's Lemonade, pop corn and Mario's North End Pizza.  In the end, the Chorus pre-show and main show started a bit earlier than normal but, though very windy, the show continued to the very end with the spectacular 1812 Overture with Grucci fireworks, Christ Church Bells but minus the Newport Artillery for the very first time.   And, with the help of more Westerly High School honor Students and Prout student Mary Brinton, the concession was closed down.
Despite all these tribulations, we were amazed at the turnout on Sunday.  So many people came back Sunday afternoon that we were very, very busy for the duration of the afternoon.  Our net is about $6700.
A very special thank you to our donors - Navigant Credit Union Del's Lemonade Sponsor, Shoreline Cinemas Pop Corn Sponsor, Honey Dew Donuts Coffee Sponsor, Bogue's Alley Hot Dog/Hot Dog Rolls/Pretzels Sponsor and all our Rotarians who sponsored soda and water for the event.
