About Be The Match

For the thousands of people diagnosed every year with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, a cure exists. Over the past 30 years Be The Match ® , operated by the National Marrow Donor Program ®  (NMDP), has managed the most diverse marrow registry in the world. We work every day to save lives through transplant. Go to  https://bethematch.org/  for more information.

We have  partnered with Be the Match, the organization that matches donors ages 18-44 with those worldwide who need bone marrow transplants (also stem cell transplants).  We have reserved a booth at the Charlestown Seafood Festival to be held in Ninigret Park August 5-7.  Produced by the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce.  Thanks to the extreme generosity of the Executive Director Heather Paliotta, we were not only able to secure a space even though they were sold out, but she waived the 4-figure cost!  Best of all, we are right next to the gazebo where WBLQ broadcasts for all three days.

The Seafood Festival is one of the largest events in New England drawing thousands a day.  It was named on of the 100 Top Events in the USA and one of the Top Ten in New England by Yankee Magazine.  So, Be the Match representatives Ann Evans, Jessica Pacheco and Jamie Robenhymer lead the charge this past weekend to assist our Rotarians through the weekend.  Steve told membership Monday evening that over the three days 56 people agreed to be tested.  A huge success!!!  There were also some visitors - past bone marrow transplant recipients - stopped to talk about their illness and recovery.
