Community Giving to date includes $500 to Westerly Pee Wee Football and $500 to the Columbus Day Parade Committee.
$450 was collected at our Million Dollar Meal last month for Rotary's Polio Plus Program, rounded up to $500 with a check going to Rotary Foundation yesterday.  A $600 check to sponsor a child of Chikumbuso for one year was mailed yesterday, as well as $100 check to A Walk to End Alzheimers for walkers Rona and Rose, $60 check to Stand Up for Animals for Trivia Night event and $300 check to Central Baptist Church for First Responders Service, $40 to Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Fund (to help Rona reach her goal for the half marathon walk last weekend).
 
Past President Bob Elmer has agreed to become the Rotarian representative to work the Westerly High School's Interact Program.  He and Cal Lord met with Chef Finkelstein and Mr. Hathaway at the high school last week along with several students who will make up the Interact and FBLA Clubs.
With the assistance of Principal Michael Hobin and his staff, Abi Turano was selected to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp next year.  Abi will be attending our 22 October dinner to meet our members.

We received thank you notes from Scholarship winner Richard Boylan, Stand Up for Animals and Rona Mann.
 
The Peace Pole has been installed at Rotary Park.  Dedication will take place 22 October from 3:00 to 4:00pm.  The Peace Pole contains the words "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in English and seven other languages - based on the town's top ethnic population - and a braille plaque.
 
Net proceeds from Golf Tournament is $10,601 but some funds are still due in.  Date has been confirmed for 2019 Golf Tournament at SHGC -  7 October.
 
A new policy was approved and voted.  Submitted by Doug Rayner, motion was made and seconded, regarding Monday Holidays:
"The legal holiday schedule of the Town of Westerly shall determine the scheduling of our meetings.  If a day on which we usually meet is in conflict with a legal holiday in the Town of Westerly, then the Rotary Club of Westerly will not meet on that day."  So, from now to June 2019, we will NOT meet on the following holiday Mondays:  2018: Nov 12, Dec 24, Dec 31, 2019: Jan 21, May 27.
 
EREY:  Only one member has contributed to the Rotary Foundation as of October 8th. So, $100 since July.
POLIO PLUS:  $500 through our Million Dollar Meal at Rotary Park.
 
Rona and Chris at Providence Coal Fired Pizza Thursday evening October 11.  They earned the Club $320 in Tips.
