Walter has been a Rotarian for almost 56 years.  He decided to resign from membership as of December 31, just 15 days short of his Rotary anniversary.  He joined the Rotary Club of Westerly in 1993, was Past President from 1976-1977 and is a Paul Harris Fellow.  Walter is a Veteran and has been very active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization as well as the War Memorial located at the corner of Broad and Grove Streets.  He also has been very involved in trying to assist veterans through the various processes, such as disability claims, pensions and health benefits.  The program is called Project Outreach of Westerly.  Walter is at the VFW home at 113 Beach Street the first Wednesday and third Monday of each month from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.  If anyone knows a vet who needs assistance, tell them to call 401.596.0470.  And, so Walter continues "Service above Self" but not as a Rotarian; however, the Board has awarded him Honorary membership and a gift of a Rotary jacket.  Many blessings to you Walter.
