Monday evening the membership had the pleasure of a visit by Ellen Madison, who spoke to us about the Westerly 350th Exhibit in the Hoxsie Gallery at Westerly Library.  If you have not been to the Library yet, you have only until March 27th to see this exciting exhibit.  Many of the items come directly from the Babcock Smith House; other items came from the Westerly Historical Society.  There are many pictures, old documents, clothing, items from industries of early Westerly.  Ellen was a treasure trove of the town's history.  Westerly was incorporated in May, 1669, and the area included Westerly, Charlestown, Hopkinton and Richmond.  Ellen told of the history behind the Babcock-Smith House.  She mentioned that what was missing from the 350th Exhibit are items relating to the last sixty years.  If you miss this great exhibit, be sure to head to Babcock-Smith House when you can as many of the exhibit pictures and documents will be found there.
