Monday evening Principal Hobin presented us with our October Student of the Month - a young lady, small in stature but a real powerhouse.  She has made High honors with Distinction all four years, National Honor and RI Honor Societies, Academic Letter and 3 pins - the list goes on and on.  Abigail Turano was also our Rotary Youth Leadership Award winner this past May.  She participated in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track and served as Captain in her Senior year.  Abby is a Freshmen Mentor and participant in Character Education, Varsity Athletes Above Substance Abuse.  For community service Abby has volunteered with the Columbus Day Parade, Attack the Track, Summer Pops, Chaperone for Elementary School Field Trips.  For her Senior Project, Abby organized a Unity Lunch on the high school's quad and athletic track to promote the "Choose to Include" movement to her fellow students and teachers.  Mr. Hobin stated that the event was extremely successful.  Many took the pledge after listening to Westerly Police Chief Lacey, Singer Billy Gilman and Mr. Hobin.   And she finds time to hold a part-time job.  Abby said that she wasn't sure where she will go to college but we know that, wherever she goes and whatever she does, Abby will be successful.
