While the United opened in 1926 as a vaudeville venue, it later became a cinema which closed in 1986. In 2015 the "Founding board members came together to envision a center for the arts housed within the United Theatre and adjacent Montgomery Ward building. A unified complex to unite the community through the arts." In 2022 Carly Callahan became the Executive Director of the now 501(c)(3) organization that includes three movie theaters, one large black box balconied auditorium, an art gallery, an events space and a music school.
Carly visited our meeting April 22 and shared upcoming events with our members - over 55,000 visitors since reopening. She formed the 1926 26 Club which provides its members with benefits depending on level of membership. To find out more, please go to https://unitedtheatre.org.
