First Tuesday Lunches

First Tuesday Lunches will begin on Tuesday, July 2nd at noon. Join us at the Mermaid Café at 19 Margin Street in Westerly. It is a great opportunity for a make-up or to bring a potential Rotarian out to lunch. The one hour format will include a meal, a short agenda and an occasional short program Meals will be chosen right off the menu.. We anticipate these meetings will be less formal and more fun.

These lunches will NOT take the place of our regular meeting. They will be in addition to the regular Monday meeting and offered as and additional opportunity for members of our club and others to meet their weekly meeting obligations.First Tuesday Lunches

A special presentation

Mario Celico was presented with a certificate of recognition in honor of his new status as an Active Excused member. Mario has been a member of the club for twenty three years. Add that to his age and you get the magical “85” which means that he is no longer required to attend meetings every week. That is the rule of 85.An active excused member still has to pay his dues and is expected to participate in the club’s activities. The only difference is that attendance at weekly meetings is no longer required to be in good standing.

Membership news
Rosemarie Russo has decided to rescind her resignation and remain with the club… Steve Salerno has officially taken his name out of consideration for the position of President-elect. His business in Connecticut needs his full attention right now… We welcomed back Frank Toscano and Bob Boughner… Our thoughts and prayers are with Roy and Louise Seitsinger upon the passing of her dad…

Report of the nominating committee

Dan Alvino sent along a report of the nominating committee. Due to membership changes since annual meeting in December, 2012, the Nominating Committee has had to re-convene to amend the previously voted upon 2013-2014 Slate of Officers. The following slate will be voted upon at the July 1 meeting:

      President: Clayton A Lord, Jr.

President-Elect: to be determined at later date

      Vice President (July/Dec): Daniel Alvino

Vice President (Jan/June): Douglas A Rayner

      Secretary/Treasurer: Rosemarie A Russo

      Director-at-Large: Franklin Celico

      Director-at-Large: Ronald Roberts

The Nominating Committee also proposes a resolution to authorize one additional Director for the year ending June 30, 2014.

Change of Command

This year’s change of Command Dinner will be on Monday, July 8 at 5:30 p.m. Come join us as we celebrate the past year under President Cal Lord’s leadership and look ahead to next year. We will officially induct him, the officers and the Board into office. Spouses and guests are invited to join in the celebration. Please email Rose (ra.russo@cox.net or 401.315.5868) with your reservations or sign up at the next two meetings.

New Missed Meeting Policy

Beginning July 1 we will be instituting a $2 charge for every missed meeting for active members of the club. Currently we are receiving $1 for every meal purchased and a donation of $2 for those who attend but choose not to eat. This helps defray some of the administrative costs of the club and allows us to keep our dues at a reasonable price for everyone. The thought was that with this change the costs of administration will be shared by those who have to miss meetings as well as those who are present.
Active Excused members, those on a leave of absence and those who do a make-up within two weeks of their absence will be exempt from the $2 charge.
