Everyone's favorite Coach, Joe Vacca, was at dinner Monday evening to talk Pee Wee Football, which is now in its 56th year for boys between the ages of 9 and 13 AND girls of the same ages learning to be Cheerleaders.  Joe said that the field was built by the community and maintained by devoted former players supported by donations from businesses and organizations.  They must raise $45 thousand dollars each year for equipment and uniforms.  No boy or girl is turned away for financial reasons.  Uniforms are replaced as needed; helmets are reconditioned every season and some may be replaced - definitely replaced after 10 years.  If anyone would like to attend a game, go to www.westerlypeeweefootball.com.  You will find team schedules for all three levels.  Also, since I was at the website a few minutes ago, I noted that they are looking for volunteers to help in the food concession.  We may be getting a visit soon from Joe's counterpart on the Cheerleading side to hear a little about that program.
